i don't have my copy of the book with me, so i have a bit of a favour to ask...

there's a part i remember with chris carabba talking about high school relationships and how that kind of love can be so real because when you're young, you're not holding anything back, something along the lines of that...

if you have the book handy and you know which part i am referring to, could you please type out that little bit of it? i am in desperate need of the exact words right now.

thanks in advance

I Love This Book [04 Dec 2004|11:18pm]
[ mood | happy ]

I finished this book about 3 weeks ago, and i started reading my favorite parts over again. THe parts about Taking Back Sunday and Thursday, are probably the one's i have read the most. Theirs something about the book that just connects to exactly how i feel most of the time, and whenever i read it, it makes me feel like their is something or someone there that relates to me. The thing about this book that is really amazing, is that it makes you realize, we as a generation feel the same way, we have bottled up feelings, that are coming out as lyrics, poems, and other various things, and other people can relate and it makes us feel awesome. It makes us feel like we're not having that shitty day, and that we're the most important person in the world, and for that time of the day with our music and our books and emotions, we are on top of the world, with out a care in our hearts, except what is being said by our music, and what we are putting on paper. I am so glad i bought this book and have read it, it truly changed my life.

hi, i'm cristina. i'm almost done reading this book, and i already know it's the best i've ever read. andy writes with such depth that punk rock and the evolution of emo into something of such cultural significance is entirely understandable now. it's basically a history book, and i really think schools should require students to read it. hehe, i might be exaggerating, but it's just so awesome. speaking of school, there's this reading program where we read books for 20 minutes, take tests on them, and receive a certain amount of points every quarter. i've been reading nothing feels good over the past couple weeks, and because of the hurricanes a few months ago, this quarter has been shortened. i have about 2 and a half weeks to amass 75 points, which is worth 10% of our 3rd hour grade. the average book is about 15 points. nothing feels good is not even part of the program. i might not have time to earn those points because i'm reading it. but, to tell you the truth, i don't care. if i have to choose one book to read for the rest of my life, this would probably be it. i can relate to it so much. well, enough of my ranting. if you ever read this, thanks andy, for writing the best book ever.

Everyday's a chance to connect with a stranger [20 Nov 2004|03:21pm]
[ mood | longing ]

AH! I strive so hard to make connections and its more than worth while. I beg of all those who go to shows just because the music is catchy or the lead singer is hot... i beg of you.. listen to what they're saying.. listen to the passion, drive, and heartbreak in their voice...scream to wretching singing volumes until your heart can't take it anymore.. cry if it makes you and then close your eyes and be swept away forget about your day and everything wrong and focus on everything great and the one you love..make the music mean something to you. Then, met the band , not because you think they're hot or "big" but because you want to thank them from the bottom of your inner being for helping you see there's life in music that can kill you and then bring you back to life with everyline that pours from their mouth and with every word their guitar is frantically screaming and you feel it tearing you apart. Make the connection and strive everyday to make it with someone new. Fall inlove and when they leave let Chris sing you to a face-drenched sleep.

Thank you Andy for inspiration, for connection, for making me feel alive, for making me cry, for helping me see the artist as the one who lived the lyrics that i so boldly claim were about me, for talking about the fans as much as the band, for saying its ok to feel this way, for showing me there are more like me, for helping me finally get serious about my music, for community, and thank you for your desire and perserverence.

i just joined but i'm so glad i found this community! i thought i was alone in knowing the wonderful workings of Andy Greenwald's fabulous book.. but i'm not! It's revolutionizing and amazing in all emotional connecting ways. I actually had to break from it a few times before i became overwhelmed with every great feeling that comes with knowing someone else knows. It's made me feel alive and every emotion was lived through to it's fullest, in one book. Amazing. I love most though, the parts where you could tell Andy was talking purely from adrealine and from what he felt. It's great. The connection is incredible! side note:: just like to say i'm gald that he actually talked about the good bands ie: all of blake's, lyndsay diaries, touched on The Smiths, the cure, dash, Saves the Day, Mineral, and many more. Also much thanks to him because i was introduced to many great artist!
